I have a craving to write today’s post already, which I never thought was possible. It’s not really that early (past midday), but its early in comparison to the evening. I did not expect to actually enjoy this as much as I do. Maybe its because the majority of my content is based on venting my inner demons, which are more than likely going to come billowing out of this blog on more than one occasion. Maybe I just like talking to myself. Whatever the reason, I am finding this process far more interesting than the skepticism of a mere two days prior.
I’ve never really fancied the idea of forcing myself to post everyday on a blog until this year… not sure why. Maybe it’s because I ramble, don’t have enough time, or often have too many thoughts to put into words.
So today I would like to discuss my evening last night. The other half finished Singularity, so now I suppose it is my turn to try out the Bioshock/Halflife/CoD influenced gameplay to see if I can overcome strange mutants and time-travel. I still have The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to finish; I think I am about half way through, while video documenting my experience with it as I have never played through a Zelda game. This is a dark secret I wish to rectify. We then watched Toy Story 3, which at times made me want to cry, and others brought nostalgia from the 90′s and watching the first film with my then 3 year old little sister. I think I had just turned 7 when Toy Story hit the cinemas, and I loved it. Now with a reasonably acceptable sequel, and a pretty hilarious threequel, I am beyond any doubt that my future children will be forced to watch them… and enjoy them damn it! While watching the film, I believe a quote from my other half was ‘if they die in this furnace I will never forgive Pixar, and there will be a stern letter heading their way’. Lucky break for Pixar then, shit would have got messy!
We then turned to BBC2, which never usually gets a look-in within our living room, to watch the wonderful Bruce Parry’s new series, Arctic, in which he visits various indigenous groups of people, and aims to learn their customs. I have always been a Parry fan, ever since he started the Tribe series back in 2005. Granted he made some other documentaries before that time, but Tribe was the first one that was really given a lot of attention, and it came out at the time in my life when I actually started seeing the world in a different light. So I am rather excited about this new series within the Arctic circle. Starting with the reindeer herders and horse breeders of Siberia, it immediately makes me long to travel. Idealistically I would love to just pack up everything and live in a place like that for an unrestrained amount of time; maybe until I find a way to move to another dramatically beautiful place somewhere around the world. Who knows, one day I might not write on this blog because I’m too busy packing for a great adventure. I can but hope.
What’s the single most important thing you accomplished in 2010?
Today’s topic is again vast. I can think of things that, to me, could be an accomplishment, but in the grand scheme of things they are rather mundane. Here is a list, and I’ll leave it to readers to decide if they were really worth mentioning.
- I learned to drive, and passed both tests first time. Since then I haven’t killed anyone, except maybe the spirit trapped inside a plastic bollard that I reversed into, and the tailgate that is now creased.
- I decided to try and follow the career path of a games journalist. At the moment it is still a hobby, but who knows what the future holds.
- I had a few days work experience with Xbox World 360 magazine in Bath. I had to travel across the country to get there, and stay on my own in an unknown town and B+B, but it was worth it.
- I have attended press events in said career path, and had a lot of fun in the process. I have met some great people along the way, and I hope to meet a great many more. It has taught me a lot this year; if you want something then you cant hide away in these situations and just be as open and enthusiastic as you can be with everyone.
- I have played more computer games than I ever have before, probably due to press copies and needing to write about them, but I have actually enjoyed the process with nearly every game, no matter how crap.
- We upgraded our family from myself and the boyfriend, to myself, the boyfriend, a cat and a rabbit. Now that we have them running around the house all day and night, I’m not sure I could live without them. They both get on really well with each other, and have both been taught the rules of the house with minimal effort.
- I started a craft project which now spans the world (pretty much). It is called Planet Blanket, and anyone can join in. The aim is to make a huge blanket made from crochet squares contributed by people from every country. The project has been featured in several magazines and newspapers, and so far the blanket is huge. I can hardly store it in my house anymore. We have also been raising money for the Every Child charity, which can be donated to on the website.
That’s what comes to mind when I think of last year. I think tomorrow I will write some new year’s resolutions. Already have some in the back of my mind, but it’s nice to make them official, and see how many I can actually keep to.
I have also written my about page, full of wonderful nonsense that really doesn’t matter too much. Links are now to the right of the page to my twitter account, if you want to follow me, and my Amazon wish list, for… you know… presents (or just to see the types of things I’m into).
So that’s it for another day. I think I am going to do some more housework, and aim to at least start Singularity.
Bye for now.
